James and Jane Blackwoods settled in a house on the banks of the river in Nova Scotia several decades ago.
The area around was wooded, there were many raccoons around. One day, James' wife rescued a wounded raccoon who was hit by a car.
The woman fed him and set him free. But he started coming to her every night to eat. A year later, he returned with his family.
This is how the Blackwoods developed a tradition of feeding raccoons in their backyard every night. Jane loved animals: in addition to a flock of raccoons, she warmed up stray cats.
In 2003, Mrs Blackwood died of cancer. Her last request to her husband was to take care of her pets: cats and raccoons.
And James gave her his word not to leave those she loved. For ten years, the man took care of his wife's elderly mother and cats.
The mother-in-law died, and at about the same time the cats left for the next world. The man picked up new ones from the street. And not for a single day did he stop feeding the raccoons.
Every evening the animals come to him, and if Blackwood does not come out on time, they knock on his door.
